About reimagine collective

reimagine collective partners with nonprofits, foundations, public agencies, coalitions, and movement leaders to strengthen strategy, communications, storytelling, organizational learning, and digital presence in ways that advance equity and social change.

We're growing our network of web developers and are looking for thoughtful, collaborative developers to join our roster of subcontractors. This is not a full-time position. Instead, you'll have opportunities to collaborate on a variety of partner projects as needs arise, including new website builds, redesigns, migrations, landing pages, and ongoing website improvements.

Who We’re Looking For

We're looking for a web developer who is collaborative, solutions-oriented, detail-oriented, and excited about building websites that help organizations communicate clearly and connect with their communities.

The ideal candidate has strong experience developing and maintaining websites in WordPress and Squarespace and understands how to build websites that are accessible, responsive, easy to navigate, and manageable for partners after launch.

You are comfortable collaborating with designers, strategists, communications teams, and clients and can translate designs, content, and project requirements into functional websites. You can also help identify practical technical solutions when a partner's needs, budget, timeline, or existing technology present constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and launch websites, landing pages, and other web-based experiences using WordPress and Squarespace.

  • Build and customize WordPress websites, including themes, page builders, plugins, and site functionality.

  • Build and customize Squarespace websites, including layouts, styles, custom CSS, and integrations.

  • Translate approved designs, wireframes, and prototypes into responsive, functional websites.

  • Implement custom HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other front-end development as needed.

  • Ensure websites function effectively across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

  • Implement accessibility best practices and support partners in improving website accessibility.

  • Configure website navigation, forms, integrations, analytics, redirects, and other functionality.

  • Support website migrations, domain and DNS configuration, hosting transitions, and website launches.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues, bugs, broken functionality, and compatibility problems.

  • Optimize websites for usability, performance, basic SEO, and page speed.

  • Integrate third-party tools such as email marketing platforms, donation and fundraising systems, CRMs, analytics platforms, and event or registration tools.

  • Build websites that partners can confidently update and maintain after launch.

  • Develop documentation or provide training to help partners manage their websites.

  • Collaborate with designers, strategists, project leads, and partners throughout the development process.

  • Participate in client meetings as needed to explain technical considerations, recommendations, and solutions.

  • Support quality assurance and testing prior to website launches.

  • Manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a remote, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional web development experience.

  • Strong experience building, customizing, maintaining, and troubleshooting WordPress websites.

  • Strong experience building, customizing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Squarespace websites.

  • Experience developing websites for nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, government, community-based organizations, advocacy organizations, or other mission-driven partners.

  • Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive development, and modern web standards.

  • Experience translating designs and content requirements into functional, user-friendly websites.

  • Experience implementing responsive designs across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

  • Understanding of web accessibility standards and experience implementing accessible website practices.

  • Experience integrating forms, email platforms, donation tools, analytics, CRMs, and other third-party services.

  • Experience with website hosting, domains, DNS, SSL certificates, redirects, and website migrations.

  • Understanding of basic technical SEO and website performance optimization.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical partners and team members.

  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary remote team.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, community, and social justice.

  • Access to your own computer, reliable internet connection, and remote workspace.

Nice to Have

  • Visual design skills and experience using Canva, Figma, and/or Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Ability to create or adapt website layouts and visual assets when a project does not have a dedicated designer.

  • Strong understanding of typography, color, layout, hierarchy, and other fundamental design principles.

  • Experience translating existing brand guidelines into cohesive digital experiences.

  • Experience with PHP and custom WordPress theme or plugin development.

  • Experience with website accessibility testing and WCAG standards.

  • Experience developing multilingual websites.

  • Experience implementing donation, advocacy, event registration, membership, or other nonprofit-specific tools.

  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Search Console, or similar analytics tools.

  • Experience providing website maintenance and ongoing technical support.

  • Experience supporting website discovery, technical scoping, or proposal development.

Our Values

We're looking for people who:

  • Believe digital tools should be accessible, useful, and responsive to the communities they are intended to serve.

  • Approach development with curiosity, care, and a problem-solving mindset.

  • Understand that technology should support an organization's goals rather than create unnecessary complexity.

  • Care about accessibility and creating digital experiences that work for people with different needs, devices, and levels of digital access.

  • Build with sustainability in mind, creating websites that partners can realistically maintain after a project is complete.

  • Communicate technical considerations clearly and respectfully with non-technical collaborators.

  • Are creative in finding solutions that balance design, functionality, budget, timeline, and partner needs.

  • Welcome feedback while confidently contributing their own perspective and technical expertise.

  • Thrive in collaborative environments where developers, designers, strategists, and partners work together.

  • Are excited to build meaningful relationships with teammates, partners, and communities.
