About reimagine collective

reimagine collective partners with nonprofits, foundations, public agencies, and movement leaders to build communications, strategy, storytelling, and creative experiences that advance equity and social change. We believe design is more than aesthetics. It is a tool for building understanding, inspiring action, and helping communities tell their own stories with care and clarity.

We're growing our network of designers and are looking for talented creatives to join our roster of subcontractors. This is not a full-time position. Instead, you'll have opportunities to collaborate on a variety of partner projects as needs arise.

Who We’re Looking For

We're looking for a designer who is collaborative, curious, and values-driven. Someone who enjoys working alongside strategists, writers, partners, and community leaders while also bringing fresh ideas, strong visual instincts, and their own creative perspective to each project.

The ideal candidate has experience designing for nonprofit or social impact organizations and believes design can help strengthen movements, shift narratives, and support communities. You are open to feedback, enjoy collaboration, and take initiative while balancing creativity with thoughtful execution.

Responsibilities

  • Design digital and print communications, including social media graphics, reports, presentations, toolkits, fact sheets, event materials, websites, and campaign assets.

  • Translate messaging and strategy into compelling visual storytelling.

  • Collaborate with our team and partners to develop creative concepts and design systems.

  • Contribute original ideas while incorporating partner and team feedback.

  • Maintain brand consistency while adapting designs for different audiences and platforms.

  • Prepare production-ready files for print and digital use.

  • Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a remote, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of professional design experience in a creative agency, nonprofit, in-house communications team, or similar environment.

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, community organizations, or other social impact initiatives.

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, community, and social justice through your work, volunteer experience, or lived experience.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing thoughtful visual design across multiple formats.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).

  • Experience using Canva and/or Figma.

  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, color, accessibility, and visual hierarchy.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote team.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting advocacy, electoral, or issue-based campaigns.

  • Experience creating visual identities or brand systems.

  • Motion graphics or basic animation experience.

  • Illustration or custom icon development.

  • Familiarity with website design and user experience principles.

Our Values

We're looking for people who:

  • Believe communities are the experts of their own stories.

  • Approach collaboration with humility, curiosity, and generosity.

  • Welcome feedback while confidently contributing their own creative perspective.

  • Care deeply about creating work that is accessible, inclusive, and culturally grounded.

  • Thrive in collaborative environments where everyone contributes to the creative process.

  • Are excited to learn, grow, and build meaningful relationships with teammates and partners.

To Apply

Please submit:

  • Resume

  • Cover letter - A short introduction about yourself, what draws you to reimagine collective, and why you're interested in joining our roster of designers

  • Link to portfolio

  • Two to three samples of relevant design work, particularly projects supporting nonprofits, advocacy organizations, community-based organizations, or social impact campaigns

If applicable, we'd also love to see work you've created for advocacy, electoral, or issue-based campaigns.

We're excited to build relationships with designers who share our commitment to thoughtful, values-driven design and who want to create work that helps our partners and their communities thrive.
