Location: Remote
Position Type: Contract / Freelance (Subcontractor)
Experience: 5+ years
About reimagine collective
reimagine collective partners with nonprofits, foundations, public agencies, coalitions, and movement leaders to strengthen strategy, evaluation, storytelling, and organizational learning in ways that advance equity and social change.
We're growing our network of strategic planning consultants and are looking for thoughtful, collaborative facilitators and strategists to join our roster of subcontractors. This is not a full-time position. Instead, you'll have opportunities to collaborate on a variety of partner projects as needs arise.
Who We’re Looking For
We're looking for a strategic planner who is collaborative, curious, values-driven, community-centered, and skilled at helping groups move from big ideas to shared priorities and action.
The ideal candidate brings experience facilitating strategic planning and organizational development processes with nonprofits, foundations, coalitions, or community-based organizations. You enjoy listening to staff, board members, community members, and other stakeholders; asking thoughtful questions; identifying patterns and opportunities; and helping groups navigate complex conversations and decisions.
You understand that a strong strategic plan includes the process that builds alignment, strengthens relationships, clarifies choices, and creates shared ownership of an organization's future.
Responsibilities
Design and support community-centered strategic planning processes for nonprofit organizations, foundations, coalitions, and community partnerships.
Plan and facilitate board and staff retreats, leadership meetings, stakeholder workshops, and community engagement sessions.
Conduct organizational assessments, environmental scans, landscape analyses, and other research to inform strategy.
Design and implement stakeholder engagement activities, including interviews, focus groups, surveys, and listening sessions.
Engage staff, board members, community members, partners, and other stakeholders throughout the planning process.
Analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information to identify themes, opportunities, challenges, and strategic insights.
Facilitate the development or refinement of mission, vision, values, strategic priorities, goals, strategies, and implementation plans.
Help organizations move from broad ideas and aspirations to clear strategic choices and actionable priorities.
Develop strategic plans, presentations, executive summaries, implementation tools, and other partner deliverables.
Facilitate conversations that support shared decision-making, alignment, and organizational learning.
Collaborate closely with project leads and multidisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.
Support project management by tracking timelines, deliverables, project tasks, and partner communication.
Contribute to proposals, knowledge products, and other business development efforts as opportunities arise.
Manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a remote, collaborative environment.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in strategic planning, organizational development, facilitation, management consulting, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
Experience designing and facilitating strategic planning processes with nonprofit organizations, foundations, coalitions, or community-based organizations.
Strong facilitation skills and experience guiding groups through complex conversations, decision-making, prioritization, and consensus-building.
Experience planning and facilitating staff and board retreats, workshops, community conversations, or other participatory processes.
Experience engaging diverse stakeholders through interviews, focus groups, surveys, workshops, and community listening sessions.
Experience using culturally responsive, participatory, or community-centered approaches to planning and engagement.
Experience working alongside BIPOC communities; experience with AANHPI communities is strongly preferred.
Ability to synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative information into clear strategic insights, recommendations, and priorities.
Experience developing strategic priorities, goals, strategies, implementation plans, or other organizational planning frameworks.
Strong writing and presentation skills, with the ability to translate planning conversations into clear and compelling deliverables.
Strong project management, organization, and time management skills.
Ability to build authentic relationships with organizational leaders, staff, boards, community members, and partners.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary remote team.
Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, community, and social justice.
Ability to travel occasionally, as needed.
Access to your own computer, reliable internet connection, and remote workspace.
Nice to Have
Experience with organizational development, governance, leadership development, or change management.
Experience developing theories of change or connecting strategic planning with evaluation and organizational learning.
Experience facilitating planning processes related to advocacy, organizing, systems change, or movement-building.
Experience supporting organizations through periods of growth, transition, leadership change, or organizational transformation.
Experience with implementation planning and helping organizations translate strategic priorities into actionable work plans.

Our Values
We're looking for people who:
Believe communities are experts in their own experiences and should have a meaningful role in shaping organizational strategy.
Approach strategic planning with humility, curiosity, and a learning mindset.
Create inclusive spaces where people can contribute honestly, navigate differences, and make decisions together.
Understand that the answers often already exist within organizations and communities, and see facilitation as a way to surface and build on that knowledge.
Balance big-picture thinking with the ability to help organizations make practical choices and move toward action.
Care about creating strategic plans that organizations can actually use.
Welcome feedback while confidently contributing their own perspective and expertise.
Thrive in collaborative environments where everyone contributes to the planning process.
Are excited to build meaningful relationships with teammates, partners, and communities.
