We're growing our network of consultants and are looking for thoughtful, collaborative operations and HR consultants to join our roster of subcontractors. This is not a full-time position. Instead, you'll have opportunities to collaborate on a variety of partner projects as needs arise.
Who We’re Looking For
We're looking for an experienced nonprofit operations and HR consultant who is collaborative, practical, values-driven, and skilled at helping organizations strengthen their people, operations, and internal systems.
The ideal candidate is a trusted advisor to nonprofit executive directors, boards of directors, and senior leadership teams, with experience strengthening organizational operations, human resources, governance, and organizational effectiveness. You are comfortable providing executive-level strategic guidance while also offering hands-on support to develop and implement policies, systems, processes, and tools.
You can assess complex organizational and people-related challenges, identify what is most important, and help leaders develop practical, equitable, and sustainable solutions. Success in this role requires sound judgment, broad nonprofit management expertise, strong written communication skills, and the ability to move between organizational strategy and hands-on implementation.
Responsibilities
Depending on the project, consultants may support partners across the following areas:
Executive Advisory Services
Serve as a strategic advisor to Executive Directors, CEOs, Boards of Directors, and executive leadership teams.

Organizational Development
Assess organizational effectiveness.
Design operational improvements.

Governance Consulting
Support nonprofit boards by developing:
Governance policies
Committee charters
Board orientation materials
Board development plans
CEO evaluation systems
Governance best practices
Facilitate governance assessments.
Provide governance training.
Training & Facilitation
Design and facilitate trainings, workshops, retreats, and learning sessions for nonprofit staff, leaders, and boards.
Facilitate learning related to leadership, supervision, human resources, performance management, governance, and organizational effectiveness.
Develop training materials, including presentations, facilitator guides, workbooks, exercises, templates, and job aids.
Deliver virtual and in-person learning experiences that are engaging, practical, and responsive to organizational needs.
Policy & Procedure Development
Develop customized organizational documents including:
Fiscal policies
HR manuals
Employee handbooks
Procurement policies
Grant management manuals
Operational procedures
Governance documents
Internal control documentation
Compliance policies
Translate regulatory requirements into practical operational procedures.
Project Management
Manage multiple consulting assignments and partner relationships simultaneously.
Develop and manage project workplans, timelines, deliverables, and project tasks.
Communicate regularly with partners and project teams about progress, decisions, challenges, and next steps.
Collaborate closely with project leads and multidisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.
Develop organizational assessments, recommendations, presentations, policies, reports, and other partner deliverables.
Contribute to proposals, knowledge products, and other business development efforts as opportunities arise.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in nonprofit leadership, operations, human resources, organizational development, management consulting, or related areas, with significant experience working with nonprofit, community-based, or other social impact organizations.
Strong experience across nonprofit operations, human resources, organizational development, and/or governance.
Experience advising executive directors, senior leadership teams, and/or nonprofit boards on complex organizational and people-related issues.
Experience assessing organizational systems, identifying challenges and opportunities, and translating findings into practical recommendations and solutions.
Experience developing and implementing HR and organizational policies, procedures, systems, tools, and internal infrastructure.
Experience supporting organizations with areas such as performance management, employee relations, workforce planning, organizational structure, and organizational change.
Strong facilitation and communication skills, including experience facilitating leadership, staff, or board conversations, trainings, or planning processes.
Strong writing skills and ability to translate complex HR and operational issues into clear, practical, and accessible guidance.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, community, and social justice.
Ability to travel occasionally, as needed, and access to your own computer, reliable internet connection, and remote workspace.
