Project Manager (Contract)
Location: Remote
Position Type: Contract / Freelance (Subcontractor)
Experience: 5+ years
About reimagine collective
reimagine collective partners with nonprofits, foundations, public agencies, coalitions, and movement leaders to strengthen strategy, evaluation, storytelling, communications, and organizational learning in ways that advance equity and social change.
We're growing our network of project managers and are looking for thoughtful, highly organized project managers to join our roster of subcontractors. This is not a full-time position. Instead, you'll have opportunities to collaborate on a variety of partner projects as needs arise.
Who We’re Looking For
We're looking for a Project Manager who is highly organized, proactive, relationship-oriented, and skilled at keeping multiple projects, people, timelines, and resources on track.
The ideal candidate has experience managing projects with nonprofit organizations and is comfortable creating structure where there are many moving pieces, coordinating teams, monitoring project scope and resources, and making sure issues are identified before they become problems. Experience supporting consulting engagements related to strategic planning, evaluation, organizational development, coaching, and leadership development is especially valuable.
Project managers at reimagine collective play an important relationship management role. You will often serve as a consistent point of contact for clients while coordinating the internal reimagine team. You should be comfortable building trusting relationships, communicating clearly when timelines or priorities need to shift, and holding people accountable while remaining collaborative and solutions-oriented.
Our team and partners work across the country and Pacific, so you must also be comfortable coordinating calendars, meetings, and deadlines across multiple time zones.
You understand that strong project management is not only about tracking tasks. It is about creating the structure, communication, and coordination that allow a team to do its best work.
Responsibilities
Depending on the project, the Project Manager may support the following areas:
Project Management & Oversight
Manage multiple projects from kickoff through completion, keeping scope, timelines, budgets, and deliverables on track.
Translate scopes of work into clear project plans, timelines, responsibilities, and milestones.
Track contractor hours and project budgets, flagging potential overages, scope changes, capacity concerns, or delays early.
Adjust timelines, workloads, and priorities as needed in coordination with project leads.
Team & Partner Coordination
Coordinate work across project teams, clarifying responsibilities, deadlines, dependencies, and next steps.
Serve as a consistent point of contact for partners on project timelines, meetings, deliverables, and follow-up, as appropriate.
Facilitate project meetings, track decisions and action items, and follow up to keep work moving.
Communicate changes, risks, and outstanding decisions clearly with project teams and partners.
Maintain project trackers, files, documentation, and other systems needed to keep projects organized and on track.
Qualifications
Experience managing multiple complex projects from start to finish.
Experience working with nonprofit organizations, foundations, public agencies, community-based organizations, coalitions, or other mission-driven organizations.
Experience developing and managing project plans, timelines, milestones, budgets, and task assignments.
Experience managing projects related to strategic planning, evaluation, organizational development, coaching, leadership development, and/or nonprofit capacity building.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing competing priorities and deadlines.
Experience monitoring project hours, scope, budgets, and resource capacity.
Strong communication, relationship-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks early and keep projects moving.
Strong proficiency with project management and collaboration tools, with the ability to work independently and effectively in a remote team environment.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, community, and social justice.
Access to your own computer, reliable internet connection, and remote workspace.
Nice to Have
Experience managing projects with multiple consultants, subcontractors, vendors, or external partners.
Experience developing or improving project management systems, templates, workflows, and processes.
Experience with Google Workspace, Slack, Canva, Figma, or other collaborative tools.
Experience working alongside BIPOC communities; experience with AANHPI communities is strongly preferred.
Our Values
We’re looking for people who:
Approach relationships with care, clarity, respect, and accountability.
Communicate early, ask questions, and create clarity when priorities, responsibilities, or timelines shift.
Balance partner needs with project scope, team capacity, and available resources.
Stay organized, proactive, flexible, and solutions-oriented in complex or fast-moving environments.
Thrive in collaborative environments and build strong relationships with teammates, partners, and communities.
