Overview

Houston in Action (HIA) is made up of representatives of community-based organizations, grassroots leaders, academic and research institution staff, and philanthropic partners. They connect communities, strategies, and resources to build power and create change.

Ahead of the 2022 elections, Houston in Action sought to expand the capacity of local civic engagement organizations in order to reach existing and new voters. They partnered with reimagine collective to develop a comprehensive training curriculum that could be easily accessed and understood by community partners.

Our Approach

reimagine collective created a curriculum for hundreds of participants that included 101, 102, and 103-level courses for Houston in Action’s member organizations across a span of 12 months. We trained community based organizations on developing ladders of engagement, creating integrated voter engagement plans, writing values based messaging, and setting organizations up with SMARTIE goals.

Trainings included:

  • Campaign Planning 101

  • Field 101

  • Field 201

  • Field 301

  • Script Writing Workshop

  • SMARTIE Goals

  • Strategic Planning

  • Integrated Voter Engagement

Additionally, we coached HIA leadership on a biweekly basis on leadership development, infrastructure building, team dynamics, strategic visioning, and coalition management. We also coached specific community based organizations in the coalition for a more hands-on approach to developing their internal processes and campaign plans.

Impact

Our training series reached over hundreds of participants in over 60 community-based organizations that are part of their civic engagement coalition. This coalition engaged thousands of new and low-propensity voters in their first ever series training academy.

“Working with AJ and Kifah was a delight. They were incredibly kind, encouraging and flexible in every interaction. They are the kind of consultants you want in your corner; they take the time to connect and build a relationship with you, and they put great thought and care into meetings, trainings and deliverables.”
