Overview

The Burien Collaborative is a collective alliance of nonprofit organizations and social service providers in Burien, WA that share a vision for social justice and equity. Their services include resource sharing, capacity building workshops, grant writing workshops, affinity groups, and more. Although they have been organizing for decades, the group only became more formalized in 2022, partnering with reimagine collective in 2025 to develop a website that could better highlight their mission and work. Additionally, they wanted the site to serve as a virtual hub for existing partners to easily access shared resources, such as meeting recaps and workshop materials.

Our Approach

Through a four-month period, we worked closely with the Burien Collaborative team to design and build a site that would accurately reflect the group’s brand, meet their organizational goals, and create opportunities to expand their digital outreach.

Branding

Although the Burien Collaborative had a logo and brand colors, the palette was limited, and the organization lacked an official brand typeface. We expanded their brand identity by selecting a brand font and adding a few more colors to round out the basic three-color palette. The typeface, Geologica, is wide, easy to read, and impactful, matching the organization’s bold style. The secondary and tertiary colors, inspired by existing collateral, work together to create a cheerful, modern look.

We identified brand traits, selected a modern font that matched the logo, and added secondary and tertiary colors to round out the palette. We also chose icons and playful shapes that could support the brand’s bold, joyful look.

Website

The seven-page website, built using Squarespace 7.1, highlights the Burien Collaborative’s programming alongside their robust network, which includes five primary partners and their organizational leads, funders, and 50+ community partners. For members, the website offers upcoming events, helpful resources, and a password-protected Member Portal where they can easily access information from their resource meetings and workshops.

The website is integrated with MailerLite, so that whenever users sign up, their email is automatically added to a MailerLite list on the backend. Additionally, a translation widget from WeGlot was implemented to include Spanish translations, which can be manually edited if needed. Finally, we set up a custom email address using the new website’s domain, adding another touch of professionalism and credibility.

Previously, the Burien Collaborative did not have their own website; instead, they had a dedicated page on Lake Burien Presbyterian Church’s website. The new website allows members to easily find the latest events, resources, and information.

With its large typography, colorful sections, bold icons and lines, playful shapes, sense of movement, and photos of real people, the website appears eye-catching and engaging while also reflecting a strong sense of community.

Impact

As a central hub for member resources, the website not only allows members to quickly access important information but also creates a more streamlined internal process for the Burien Collaborative staff. Features such as the event calendar, email sign-up, and Spanish translation widget create an opportunity to expand and deepen community outreach. Lastly, our Squarespace training, as part of our capacity building support, empowers the staff to make regular updates across the site without difficulty.

“I would describe reimagine as personable, organized, and effective. The most exciting part of the experience was getting to see the ways that our design desires were articulated by Kim. We had very broad ideas as far as design language goes for the website, so seeing them come to life through Kim’s work was great. The website came out looking better than we could have hoped for.”
